Dr. Pravin Kulkarni performed an aortic valve replacement (AVR) surgery on my mother-in-law, Mrs. Chhaya Choudhary, at Hiranandani Hospital, Powai, in June 2025.
Our overall experience with Dr. Kulkarni has been truly exceptional. He is a doctor blessed with outstanding diagnostic skills, deep experience, and a strong reputation in cardiac surgeries — all complemented by a patient-first mindset. Unlike many reputed professionals, Dr. Kulkarni takes the time to explain the condition thoroughly, discuss the line of treatment, outline the pros and cons, and provide reassurance about the expected outcomes.
We approached him for a second opinion (our first was in Pune), especially since my mother-in-law was asymptomatic. His approach was methodical — starting with investigations to assess the severity and determine whether surgery could be delayed or avoided. After initial tests, he clearly explained why the surgery shouldn't be postponed despite the absence of symptoms.
Initially, based on online research, we were inclined toward the TAVR procedure, which is more expensive than open-heart surgery. However, Dr. Kulkarni explained in detail which types of patients are ideal candidates for TAVR and why, in our case, open-heart surgery was the more appropriate and effective option. He also guided us through the decision between prosthetic and mechanical valves, outlining the pros and cons of both, and helped us understand the risk factors involved.
What stood out most was his honesty — after providing all the information, he told us that we were free to choose any hospital or surgeon but emphasized that the surgery should not be delayed. That level of transparency built immense trust, and we are grateful we chose to go ahead with him.
The surgery was performed on June 27th. Within two days, my mother-in-law was sitting up in a chair and interacting with us. She was moved to the general ward on day three and, by day six, was walking independently and ready for discharge. Dr. Kulkarni remained accessible post-surgery for any queries or concerns — something that gave us great comfort.
We are deeply grateful to Dr. Pravin Kulkarni and his team for their expertise, compassion, and constant support during such a critical time. We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff, ward attendants, and security team at Hiranandani Hospital, Powai, for their dedication and care, which made this experience as smooth and positive as possible.

I, Vishwas Sathe, age 61, have recently undergone heart bypass surgery on 25th June 2025 performed by Dr. Pravin Kulkarni at Dr. L. H. Hiranandani Hospital, Powai.
Infact, I had no symptoms of any heart disease ( except chronic high BP ) in spite of regular exercises like swimming and cycling. The Angiography was performed on 19th June which concluded that I had all three main arteries blocked around 90%. This was very critical situation which warranted urgent bypass surgery and not Angioplasty.

Infact Doctor readjusted his prior commitments and immediately scheduled my operation in short span and successfully operated on me on 25th June.
The operation was critical and took around 7 long hours. Pertinant to note that every morning and evening till I was discharged from hospital, the Doctor ensured personal checking, interaction and gave necessary mental comfort to me and my family.
It is worth to mention that right from first day of interaction till the date, his approach and the way of communication was far from typical Doctor patient relationship. Like a guardian, he drove the interaction making us understand the problem, the solution, and the way forward etc.
His empathetic view allowed us to freely interact and seek answers to my layman's questions, sparing sufficient time during each of his visits.

The humility is felt during all the interactions with him which is otherwise a rare experience and was indeed heart touching.
While I thanked him for saving my life, he humbly expressed  that he just did his job and rest all is “hand of God”.

Such a senior Doctor ensured that he is easily approachable anytime even after the discharge from hospital for any query or feedback which is most assuring comfort to us.
